What's Up, Daddy Warbucks?

Asa sighed exasperatedly as he stood at the doorway, in the form of Annie. He had knocked almost three minutes ago (he'd been counting, yes). "Hurry up, for the love of God!" he exclaimed. This was the twenty-second house he'd come to, the twenty-second door he'd knocked on, the twenty-second front porch he stood impatiently waiting on. For the first few houses, he pretended to be Matilda-- who could resist her?!? Apparently, four families don't think she's that awesome. Then, he tried a little Drew Barrymore, so small, so adorable. But alas, the next fifteen or so houses haven't ever seen "E.T." And now, he stands impatiently on this house's--mansion's--front porch, disguised as Annie.

"It's a hard knock life for us!" Asa began to sing, knocking on the hard door the rhythm that matched his singing. "Hurry up!!" he screamed at the door after a few more minutes. The young man sighed once more, sitting down on the cement porch, criss-cross-applesauce, facing the door. "Grr. So. Freakin'. BORED!!!" He frowned slightly. "Open saysme! Open ses-e-mee! Open door-i-mo!"

((Okay, guess I should finally try my hand at actually posting with Gyp. Let's see how this goes.))

    Gypsy was humming along to the music from her iPod as she aimlessly skated around on her roller blades around the front halls of the Academy. She loved that the floor was made of marble. It made for especially smooth skating, which of course was the best kind. It was free time since it was a weekend, and she'd taken a day off from spending it with Ax and had kept to herself most of the day. She liked days like this. So peaceful.

    [It'd be more peaceful if someone wasn't scream-knocking at the door,] Puck grumbled.

    Gypsy perked up. "Someone's knocking at the door?" she asked out loud--which probably ended up a lot louder than she meant it, since her music was so loud.

    [Why don't you go and find out instead of shouting about it?]

    Gosh, someone's grumpy today... she muttered back. Blading over to the entrance, she turned off her music and yanked out the earbuds before opening the door. To her surprise, a little redheaded girl that she didn't immediately recognize stood on the porch. And the even stranger thing was that she somehow looked...familiar.

    "Um, hi?" she said, more like a question than a welcome. "Are you new here?" She almost asked if she was one of the students morphing, but she couldn't be sure if this was just a joke or a legitimate stranger.

Asa nods, a large amount of red hair flopping in front of his eyes when he does so. "Oh, really? D*** it, Annie, couldn't you have worn a freaking bun?!" he exclaimed, throwing his small arms up in the air. After fixing his hair for the time being (it was bound to screw up again sometime soon), he looked up at the girl. "Well, duh!" he said, attitude very clear in his tone. Yes, he was a Canadian, but I guess everyone has some rage. Meh, what could a little Annie do?

((I thought you said he was "nice and sweet, kind and compassionate"...? Also, it kinda sounds like you're acting like my narration was said out loud, but I'll just go with it.))

    "Um...okay..." Gypsy was rather taken aback by this little girl's outburst.

    [I'm thinking we should shut the door in Miss Freak Out's face,] Puck observed. If she could've, Gypsy would've given him a disapproving look.

    She's probably just had a long day or something, Puck. You know what it was like living on the streets. That's probably where this kid came from. Puck just grumbled a few incomprehensible things back.

    "Are you lost?" Gypsy tried again, since the girl--Annie, she guessed. Why did that sound so goshdarned familiar--hadn't really explained anything helpful to her case.

(Gosh, sorry guys! We had to go to Oklahoma for Christmas, to my Grandma's house, and I really didn't have the time. Again, so sorry..)

Asa shrugged at the question. "I guess I am lost," he says. "Listen, I'm real sorry for that, and I need a place to stay. Mind if I stay here until I can transform back into mys-I mean, until I can find another place to stay?" [Good,] Dawson says. [And if she doesn't say yes, start tap dancing or something! You can't stay on the streets!]

Gypsy jiggled her roller blades back and forth as she studied the stranger, contemplating what to do. The little girl seemed a bit...odd.
Which was exactly what they all were! The girl would fit right in!
"I'll take you to Enrique," she said brightly, taking the little redhead's hand and tugging her inside so she could shut the door. She rollerbladed ahead down the hallway. "C'mon!" she said. She looked over her shoulder and circled back to let the girl catch up. "You said your name was...Annie, right?"

Asa eyes the girl as she pulls him into the house. This girl seemed quirky, but kinda cute and cool.. He hoped if he could ever get out of this body, he'd get to meet her. Like, in his own body. Where he wouldn't have to pretend to be a little girl.

Asa followed the girl hesitantly, nodding in response to the question. "Er, yeah, Annie... But, if you don't mind, just call me 'Asa,'" he says. "What's yours?"

Skating backwards, Gypsy tucked her arms behind her back. "I'm Gypsy," she said cheerfully.
[And I'm Puck!]
She can't hear you, Puck.
[So?]
Gypsy rolled her eyes at her wisp. Then she remembered Annie--er, Asa--was still in front of her. "Uh, sorry," she said sheepishly. She finally turned around, continuing to skate to Enrique's office. It wasn't much farther.
"How come you go by Asa, anyway?" she asked in casual conversation.

Axel had watched the exchange from his usual tree, he knew there was some unknown shapeshifter showing up at people's houses in town. The person really needed to learn to cover their tracks better, and Axel was sure they would show up at the academy doorstep soon enough.
[What if that girl isn't really the shapeshifter?]
Then she'll probably run away screaming, not my problem. Axel figured that if the girl wasn't an esper then nobody would believe her about the academy anyway. He waited a few seconds for Gypsy to guide the unknown shifter inside.
The shapeshifter was rather convincing, from his perch up in the tree he hadn't been able to tell any differences, in fact if the girl's story hadn't matched the rumors he probably would have just disregarded her altogether.
Eventually Ax decided he waited long enough and chose that moment to teleport, appearing right infront of the girl.

(figured it was about time to scare Asa, not much more surprising than somebody appearing directly infront of you like that. lol I imagine that must take  the noobs awhile to get used to xP)

Asa scratched the back of his neck nervously at the girl, Gypsy's, question. "Well, uh... My mom, she was of Jewish descent, so she wanted to name me 'Asaiah', because it was a biblical name.." he slowly explained to her as they walked to someplace Asa didn't know.
[Liar, liar, pants on fire!] exclaimed Dawson inside him.
Shaddup!

Asa swallowed hard, trying to think. "But, when she found I was a girl, she shortened it to-- AH!" he yelped, falling backwards on his butt, evidently tacken aback by the complete stranger popping up outta nowhere. "Who're you?!?" he said frantically, propping himself up on his elbows.

Gypsy swiveled back around on her skates when Asa cut herself short with an exclamation of surprise. She wasn't entirely surprised to see who it was, however.
"Aaaaax," she reprimanded, but she was trying not to giggle. Ax had coerced her into playing pranks on new kids before, especially when she was younger, and a lot of times it was loads of fun. At the moment, though...
"Uh, Ax..." she said carefully. "I don't actually know if she's...you know...like us yet." She widened her eyes at him meaningfully, her head racing with ways to explain Ax's appearance. She supposed they could always have Johnny brainwash that particular memory if she ended up not being an Esper...

Axel didn't bother hiding his amusement at the girl's reaction to his appearing seemingly out of nowhere. He sensed the presence of her wisp as well, which confirmed that the person was in fact an Esper.
"And if she's not then anyone she tells about this is going to think it's just a kid making up stories." Axel responded without turning his head. The stranger looked vaguely familiar, but he dismissed it.
"I mean, would you believe a little kid about appearing out of nowhere like that?"  Axel disappeared again, this time leaning against the wall to the left behind Gypsy.  He considered the fact that he had just asked Gypsy that question. "Actually, don't answer that."

Asa blinked nervously, shifting his focus from this Ax to Gypsy. "Holy Mary," he muttered softly. "What do you mean, 'I'm not like you?" he asked. [Obviously, they mean you're not special like them,] answered Dawson, all matter-of-factly. "Shut up, Dawson!" Asa exclaimed. "I'm special; Mom always told me so." [Then why'd she send you away?]

Asa shrugged off his wisp, and focused on the two... things...in front of him. "Who--er, what are you?"

Taking a breath and lifting a finger up as though to say something, Gypsy...paused. "Uh..." she said, looking at Ax to see if he had an explanation.
Though, it didn't appear she needed one, as Asa all of a sudden shouted at some random not-there person named Dawson. Not-there person, huh...
Gypsy brightened. Then she deflated a bit again when Asa addressed them. "We are not whats, thank you," she said, a tad indignantly. "I'm fairly certain 'whats' can't rollerblade and win derby competitions." She exchanged a look with Ax. "You thinking she's one, too?"

Asa rolled his eyes at Gypsy's defense of being called a "what"--when in fact, she was indeed a what, as people in general are whats, thought Asa. But no matter. Asa needed to know what in God's name these little whats--yes, he dare say that--were beating around the bush about. "Out with it!!!" he yelled in frustration. "What am I or am I not?!?!?"
Jeez, said Dawson. You're an angry little bugger.
"Yes, Dawson,  people get angry! It's a natural human emotion!" Asa exclaimed to his wisp. "We've been over this."
